With only five bedrooms, but plenty of character, the Palazzo Marziale is the perfect spot for a romantic break in the picturesque town of Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast. The 15th-century Palazzo was originally the ancestral home of owner Paola Savorese, who has lovingly renovated the building to highlight the antique furnishings whilst keeping an eye on contemporary design.

    Dining

There are two restaurants to choose from at Palazzo Marziale. La Terrazza offers fine dining, with mouth-watering dishes inspired by local cuisine. In the summer months, food is served al fresco in the outdoor terrace, where the tables are nestled amongst lemon trees and wisteria, making for a romantic, intimate dinner.

Il Marzialino is an informal restaurant/wine-bar situated on street-level, facing the Cloister of San Francesco, and specialises in meat dishes, particularly steak and carpaccio, served in an informal dining room.

    Activities

Immortalised in song by Dean Martin, Sorrento is a charming little cliff-top town perched above the glittering blue waters of the Mediterranean. Palazzo Marziale is located in the historic heart of Sorrento, overlooking the picturesque gardens of Piazza San Francesco, and just steps away from the 14th-century Cloister of San Francesco. Although not known for its beaches, there is a small bathing beach at Marina Piccola, just minutes from the hotel.

Sorrento is well-placed for an exploration of the Amalfi Coast. The Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, perfectly preserved by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius nearly two millennia ago, are within driving distance and are well worth a visit. Just minutes away from the Palazzo Marziale is the port of Sorrento, where you can catch ferries that will whisk you away to Amalfi or Capri for day trips.
