Only when you book with Chic
Perched above the dazzling blue waters of the Amalfi Coast, Santa Caterina is the perfect base from which to explore this beautiful corner of Italy. Consisting of 66 guest rooms spread between the main building and two adjacent villas, Santa Caterina has been run by the Gambardella family since 1880, during which time it has played host to many illustrious guests.
With the main building clinging to the cliff-side above the Mediterranean, you’ll never be far from a jaw-dropping panoramic view, whether you enjoy it with a glass of prosecco in the rooftop terrace bar, or a locally-caught grilled fish in one of the two restaurants. During the summer months, take one of the two glass elevators carved into the cliff-face down to the Santa Caterina Beach Club, where you can take a dip in the saltwater swimming pool, or simply lounge on one of the comfortable deck chairs.
There are two restaurants at Santa Caterina, both with sweeping views of Amalfi and the sea below. Ristorante Santa Caterina, found in the main building, offers exquisite dishes championing the cuisine and produce of the Amalfi Coast, served in an elegant dining room. Ristorante al Mare (open May to October) serves fresh, grilled fish and pizzas in a more informal setting.
The 66 guest rooms are styled in a bright, airy palette, with luxurious furnishings such as hand-painted majolica flooring and marble bathroom fittings. It’s worth noting that not all rooms have views of the sea, and that some of the sea-view rooms may be unsuitable for light sleepers due to their proximity to the restaurant.
The Santa Caterina Beach Club (open from May to October) is reachable either by elevator, or via a scenic path leading through citrus groves and luxuriant gardens. Bask in the Italian sunshine or refresh yourself in either the saltwater swimming pool or the waters of the Mediterranean, before watching the sun go down with a glass of prosecco at Il Grottino Bar.
The Santa Caterina Spa will take care of all your needs, allowing you to pamper yourself with a range of massages and treatments, including a signature treatment utilizing the essential oils of the various citrus fruits of the Amalfi Coast.
Santa Caterina is a short walk (15-minutes) from the centre of Amalfi, a picturesque town with many sites of historical and cultural interest thanks to its history as the centre of the powerful Maritime Republic of Amalfi. The peaceful little fishing village of Atrani is a longer (25-minute) walk, or a short drive away, and is well worth a visit.
