At only seven rooms, Villa Lara offers a personable, charming way to enjoy the Amalfi Coast. Set up on a hill, the views here are spectacular – straight across the rooftops to the sea and, whilst you can enjoy all the benefits of being slightly out of town, you’re still within walking distance of the centre (there is an amazing lift cut into the rock if you don't fancy the 200 or so stairs up to the hotel).
Dating back to the late 1800s the style here is a mix of traditional and contemporary and the lovely staff go out of their way to ensure you have a good stay, with great attention to detail and plenty of local tips and advice.
It's worth noting that the hotel is open seasonally from around mid-April to mid-October and children 10 years old and younger are not permitted from May to September.
A good breakfast is served and can be enjoyed out on the terrace with views out over the town and sea. There is no restaurant on site but a few to choose from down in town
Décor across the seven rooms is simple, tasteful and homely, making the most of the building’s original features including ancient vaulted ceilings and majolica-tiled floors.
The lovely staff are very happy to help arrange tours, transfers and reservations along with car, motorbike and boat hire. The hotel is a 10-minute walk from the Cathedral and Piazza Duomo and you are also well placed for the Paper Museum that celebrates Amalfi's history of paper production. The sea is a 5/10-minute walk away.
Massages and beauty treatments can also be arranged on request.
