With only 18 rooms, Palazzo Novello is a charming boutique bolthole in the historic town of Montichiari in Lombardy. The 18th-century palace has been restored with a chic minimalism; white walls and airy drapes complement original features such as grand stone balustrades and historic frescos. There’s a real atmosphere of welcome and friendly informality at Palazzo Novello, with hosts Kenda and Nicoletta providing an attentive service that is always accompanied with a smile. Home-baked cakes and the ‘happiness jars’, where guests are encouraged to place cards listing reasons to be cheerful, complete the feel-good atmosphere. Nestled on the slopes of the San Pancrazio Hill, known for its elegant 17th and 18th-century buildings, Palazzo Novello has a tranquil location that is perfect for exploring the Brescia region.
Bring the whole family to this Chic Retreat. Children will love the small playground in the hotel’s garden, and many of the rooms are suitable for families, and well-behaved pets can have free-roam of the hotel building and spacious gardens.
The hotel has a well-stocked honesty bar, perfect for any budding mixologists. Try a pirlo, the typical apéritif of Brescia; a mixture of white wine, Campari and seltzer.
The hotel has no restaurant, however the team can recommend their favourite places to go to in Montichiari. Bresciano cuisine is rustic but hearty. Be sure not to miss out on a traditional /spiedo/: spit-roasted fowl and game served on a mound of polenta, dripping with meaty gravy.
Each of the 18 rooms have a minimal soft-white palette, and are decorated with sumptuous fabrics. Many of the rooms have original features of the historic palace such as elegantly decorated wooden ceilings. Some of the rooms and suites can be made into twin rooms, making them ideal for families.
Kick back and unwind on one of the comfortable sun loungers in the hotel’s garden, and let the gently gurgling fountain lull you to sleep. For a pampering treat, indulge in an in-room massage or beauty treatments.
Montichiari is a charming town known for its historic market (it’s been held very Friday since 1173!) and beautiful 17th and 18th-century architecture; just a short drive from the hotel is the major city of Brescia, which boasts some spectacular Roman ruins and a Renaissance castle. Kenda and Nicoletta will happily suggest activities and can design a custom itinerary for you to experience the best that this beautiful region as to offer. Visit the lakeside house of Italian poet Gabrielle d’Annunzio; involved heavily in the Futurist movement, his garden includes a full-size model of an Italian battleship. Alternatively, rent one of Palazzo Novello’s vintage vespas and tear along the scenic road to the crystal-clear waters of Lake Garda.
