Within months of opening, Crazy Bear Beaconsfield was on Conde Nast Traveller's Hot List for one of the best new hotel openings. In short, it's the perfect place for adults wanting to go somewhere out of the ordinary.
The 15th-century coaching inn has been restored in dramatic and theatrical style, and the result is a unique luxury hotel experience. There's a swimming pool and a Thai and English restaurant, and the private dining rooms, bar and terrace provide the perfect setting for weddings, parties and celebrations.
The English restaurant serves the quality grilled meats, fish and seafood and an array of seasonal vegetarian dishes. Choose from the likes of scallop carpaccio with lime, vanilla and pea shoot salad, asparagus with heritage hen egg, sun-blushed tomatoes and sourdough, or juniper-marinated lamb loin and crispy beast with roasted shallots and cider jus.
By contrast, the Thai eatery has a menu of mouthwatering dishes, with à la carte and sharing menus available. Feast on plates such as Cotswold chicken wrapped in pandan leaves, hot and sour tiger prawns, and glass noodle salad.
All of the smoked products are created in-house at the Crazy Bear Farm Shop's smokehouse; the Welsh Badger Lamb and Gloucestershire Old Spot pork is reared at the Crazy Bear Farm, and all of the meats are butchered at the shop.
Both the English restaurant and bar menus are available out on the pool terrace in warmer months.
Nothing is ordinary at Crazy Bear Beaconsfield: the 45 air-conditioned rooms are opulent and dramatic, featuring wet room en-suites, Lutron mood lighting, underfloor heating, Noble Isle products, bathrobes, hairdryers, WiFi and 180 TV channels including the latest on-demand films.
Opt for a suite located in the main house or on of the surrounding cottages and enjoy additional space, a copper roll top that fills from the ceiling, and sultry leather and velvet decor.
The bar is open Sunday to Thursday from noon to midnight and Friday and Saturday until 1am, and is a welcoming and individual spot to hang out and enjoy a cocktail and tapas.
Chill by the pool and Jacuzzi, or book in a massage: with over 10 years experience, the expert therapists have cleverly adapted the traditional methods using heated oils – complete bliss.
