- If you’re looking for a well-located, sleek and stylish base for your Marseille stay, you can’t go wrong with budget boutique Alex Hôtel. Located just a hop, skip and a jump away from the rather grand Saint-Charles train station, the hotel is not only well-placed for an early/late arrival/departure but just a 15-minute walk from the vibrant hub-bub of the famous Vieux Port.
- First impressions can be deceiving: the classic, Marseille exterior of Alex Hôtel belies the cool, modern design inside. Perhaps our favourite thing about Alex Hôtel though, is the staff – they offer the warmest of welcomes and go out of their way to ensure you have all that you need during your stay.
Dining
As you can expect from a European hotel, a continental breakfast is served each morning. Unlike many hotels however, there is also the option of scrumptious pancakes, waffles and, of course, French toast. Tuck into your morning fuel in the lounge or inner courtyard. Fancy a lie-in? No problem! Breakfast is served until midday so you don’t miss out on your beauty sleep.
If you’re keen to try the classic Provençal bouillabaisse, we highly recommend heading over to the Vieux Port, where Chez Michel serves a delicious one.

- Each of the 21 rooms are well designed, with pops of colour, contemporary light features and comfy beds. The bathrooms are good too, with great showers and brightly coloured bathrobes (always a treat).

  A very nice experience. The hotel is near the train station. The room is clean and tidy. The receptionists are so kind to provide a map of Marseille for us and some information about travelling.

  The hotel is great. The staff were friendly. The hotel is next to the train station and very easy to find. It was hard to find suitable restaurants nearby (maybe because of COVID). Overall stay was perfect.

  Our visit to the Alex hotel at Marseille really elevated our spirits! We could relax perfectly in the clean spa and the breakfast was 10/10. Thanks to the very nice staff!

  Every member of staff I dealt with was helpful. The breakfast was worth the 14 euro cost, particularly if you had a long day ahead. Also, the rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. As I missed my flight, I had to return two the hotel, so I stayed in two rooms. I especially liked the second room at the back of the hotel due to its cool temperature and ample wardrobe space.I hope to return to Marseille and Alex Hotel sometime.

  Very good 3 star hotel located right next to the main railway station, Gare St-Charles and both metro lines with excellent, well-maintained facilities. Comfortable bed and modern bathroom with shower. On the bottom floor where the breakfast room is, you can use the space to do work on a laptop pretty much whenever breakfast is not being served. I used the hammam and sensory shower and they were well worth it.
