Hampshire's Chewton Glen is a privately-owned, 5-star luxury hotel surrounded by 130 acres of parkland. Sitting on the edge of the New Forest National Park, it's a stone's throw from the sea and within easy reach of Bournemouth and the Isle of Wight. This luxe getaway has everything you could wish for, including indoor and outdoor pools and tennis courts, a spa, an award-winning restaurant, and exceptional service to match.
A talented bunch head up the Dining Room restaurant, and with many ingredients used travelling less than 100 yards from their kitchen garden, food miles are kept to a minimum. The light and bright space is inviting, with flashes of colour from lime green banquettes adding a vibrant splash. But more importantly, the food: feast on plates such as dressed Devonshire crab with apple, pickled daikon and celeriac rèmoulade, slow-cooked daube of beef with smoked polenta and bordelaise sauce, and barbecued cauliflower, with smoked goat’s cheese, almonds, and Winchester watercress.
Less formal meals can be dug into at The Kitchen, an open-plan room with Tapas-style dishes, pizza, and salads. The purpose-built structure is also home to a cookery school, where day courses ranging from knife skills to the perfect paella can be booked. And Marryat Afternoon Tea – named after the celebrated naval officer – can be enjoyed by guests out on the terrace.
There are rooms and suites to fit all styles, ranging from traditional to contemporary. Plus treehouses with huge windows, built high on stilts in a private valley – each an unforgettable setting for unwinding and relaxing.
Renovated and reopened in spring 2020, the spa is a luxe spot for a touch of pampering; a countryside mural and muted tones combine to create a soothing atmosphere. The impressive facilities include a 17-metre swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool, outdoor whirlpool, and treatment rooms where therapists use products such as Oskia and Natura Bissé.
On-site, there's also a fully-equipped gym, dance studio, 9-hole golf course, and a host of woodland jogging and walking trails. Mountain biking and pony trekking in the New Forest can also be arranged.
The Beehive is what the hotel calls its children's club – supervised activities are the order of the day, ranging from arts, crafts and sports to treasure hunts.
Free parking is available.
