The unconventional G-Rough is a trendy, contemporary hotel that celebrates timeless Italian design. The exposed walls and original wooden ceilings of the 17th-century building are decorated in a homage to classic Italian style of the 30s, 40s and 50s, with pieces by artists such as Ico Parisi, Giò Ponti and Silvio Cavatorta, amongst others.
G-Rough themselves call this style ‘rough-luxe’, and its an apt description that fits this combination of shabby-chic décor and top-class service perfectly. The suites and apartments have comfortable living areas, and the ground-floor houses a lively bar serving excellent coffee and cocktails. With a location on Piazza Navona in the heart of historic Rome, G-Rough is a refreshing alternative to some of the more traditional hotels in the area.
An organic breakfast is served in the bar or in the privacy of your suite, if you prefer. The hotel does not serve food, but there are plenty of restaurants in the surrounding streets.
The lively G-Bar is a trendy spot for a pre, or post dinner drink, and has a wide choice of Italian wines with a list that particularly champions small producers. The bar doubles as an art space, with many performances and organisations organised by artist Guendalina Salini.
Rooms feature the original patina walls and wooden roofs of the 17th-century building, and are furnished with designer pieces inspired by the classic Italian style of the 30s, 40s and 50s. Bathrooms feature either showers or baths, and are elegantly tiled. Some of the pricier suites have access to private terraces. It's worth noting that rooms facing the Piazza can be a little noisy, so bear this in mind if you’re a light sleeper.
The helpful staff at G-Rough offer a range of ‘Unconventional Experiences’ inspired by the alternative philosophy of the hotel: explore another, unseen Rome beneath the streets of the Eternal City, or trace the streets and palaces that inspired the genius of Caravaggio.
The central location of G-Rough makes it ideal for your own exploration of the city, with landmarks such as the Pantheon and Campo de’ Fiori within walking distance, and there’s nothing better than losing yourself in Rome’s winding streets.
