Quintessentially Italian, the Hotel Masseria degli Ulivi offers a peaceful retreat and a perfect place to enjoy some serious r&r.
Nestled amongst olive groves in beautiful rolling countryside, rooms are set across the main masseria and a number of out houses offering a nice level of privacy and lovely villagey feel. The pool is a treat, with plenty of space and surrounded by olive and fruit trees offering welcome respite for those that like a little shade.
The hotel has a focus on sustainability, using renewable energy sources where possible to heat and cool the pool and rooms and offering a menu of locally-sourced and seasonal produce in the wonderful on-site restaurant.
The staff are charming and whilst the WiFi can be a little patchy in places this is the kind of spot to get offline, just kick back and unwind.
A simple breakfast is served out on the pretty terrace and is included in most room rates (see detail below).
There is a restaurant which is open for dinner and which serves delicious Sicilian specialties using organic vegetables from the hotel's own garden. There is a great wine cellar featuring bottles from some of the best local vineyards.
The style across the 34 rooms is rustic chic, with whitewashed walls, cool tiled floors, dark wooden furnishings typical of the region. Some of the pricier rooms offer their own little terrace and there are a couple of larger rooms available, perfect if you're travelling as a family.
There is an outdoor swimming pool (open in the summer months) and a tennis court along with bicycles available for hire.
Located in the hills of Val di Noto, you are definitely best having a car to get here and around with Noto a 15-minute drive away and the nearest beaches around 30-minutes. The hotel is also a great place from which to explore Siracusa, Ragusa and Catania.
