An exotic and evocative atmosphere awaits you at Novecento Boutique Hotel, with a décor inspired by the works of fin-de-siecle designer Mariano Fortuny. Fortuny, who in his lifetime was immortalised in the works of Proust, was obsessed with the East as well as Venice’s grand history, and both are evident in the interiors of Novecento Boutique. There is a clear passion for beautiful materials, from the tapestries that hang in the common areas to the Moroccan rugs that carpet some of the rooms, and the furniture used is either late-19th-century, or custom-made for the hotel.
Novecento Boutique Hotel is owned by the Romanelli family, three generations of hoteliers spanning fifty years, and the sister property, Hotel Flora, is just a short walk away. With only nine rooms, as well as a comfortable lounge and honesty bar, Novecento Boutique Hotel is a romantic love-nest with a whole lot of character, just minutes away from St Mark’s Square.
A sweet and savoury breakfast buffet is served daily, featuring homemade cakes and, of course, Italian coffee. There are several restaurants in the surrounding area, and the helpful team at Novecento Boutique will be more than happy to point you to their favourite spots, and assist with any reservations.
The nine rooms at Novecento Boutique are elegantly appointed, with décor and fabrics inspired by Venetian grandeur and Eastern exoticism. Floors are either original Venetian marble, or wooden with Moroccan carpets. The shower bathrooms are compact, but the Philippe Starck fittings and Ortigia toiletries more than make up for their size.
The cosy living room, with its roaring fire and comfortable sofas, is the perfect place to snuggle. Hot drinks and homemade pastries or biscuits are served throughout the day, and there is a well-stocked honesty bar if you fancy an evening tipple.
Novecento Boutique Hotel is located on the quiet Calle del Dose, in the heart of the historic San Marco district, and just a short walk will bring you to landmarks such as Teatro la Fenice and the Piazza San Marco. We recommend losing yourself in Venice’s romantic warren of streets, canals and bridges before returning to Novecento for a drink at the honesty bar.
