Set in Beira’s rolling green hills, Quinta da Palmeira is an absolute gem: an elegantly renovated 19th-century country manor that perfectly balances traditional and contemporary. The white façade gives way to surprising interiors that bring colour and a touch of glamour to this quiet corner of Portugal.
You’re in the heart of the countryside nestled between two national parks, so there are plenty of lovely walking options, and there's even kayaking nearby if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous. But realistically, you could quite easily spend all day in the shade of an orange tree, or beside the pool with a book.
A tasty breakfast is included in most room rates and can be enjoyed out on the terrace in warmer weather.
The restaurant overlooks the garden and serves a seasonal menu at lunch and dinner that's high quality but without pretension. There's also a bar by the pool – conveniently placed for a refreshing drink.
Rather than understated whitewashed walls, the 8 bedrooms come with bold, hot colour combinations and dramatic furnishings. All of the en-suite rooms at were planned and decorated with the greatest of care in order to provide you with a sense of comfort and elegance.
Important to note: the property complies with Turismo de Portugal's Clean and Safe stamp of approval, meaning it meets rigorous hygiene and cleaning requirements.
There's a lovely outdoor pool surrounded by orange and olive trees to lounge around as well as a tranquil spa, and guests can also relax in the lounge area, or read a book in the adjoining reading room. There are plenty of things to do and see in the nearby area including visits to the waterfalls in Fraga da Pena, walks in the 350-hectare Mata de Magaraça, and trips to Piódão, a historic (and pretty) village. Horse riding or mountain biking through the local villages and woods is a lovely way to spend a morning.
Free parking is available.
