Salut Maroc! can be found in a former 18th-century merchant's house in the UNESCO Medina of Essaouira – an excellent location in the heart of the city. This cool and colourful boutique hotel is in direct contrast to the battery of bronze cannons, old winding streets and historic ramparts – the walls and floors are adorned with traditional traditional zellige (mosaic tilework).
A traditional Moroccan breakfast is served up on the rooftop every morning from 7.30-10.30am (think pastries and made-to-order Berber omelettes), and that's also where you'll find the terrace restaurant serving barbecued meats and locally-sourced fish alongside salads and Moroccan specialities. Enjoy a pre-meal drink in the ocean-facing bar, and then while away the time enjoying a leisurely lunch or dinner.
The 11 striking bedrooms and suites have been created with passion by the owner, and lovingly decorated; many have magnificent views overlooking the Atlantic. Each has a modern take on Moroccan design, is totally individual, and exudes flair and personality. Expect Islamic patterns, traditional silks, vibrant colours, and a mixture of contemporary and antique pieces. The end result? A really happy and uplifting vibe, putting a smile on your face whichever room you're in.
Speaking Arabic, English and French, the staff at the 24-hour front desk are willing to help at any time of the day. WiFi is complimentary and in-room dining is available.
This laid-back boutique property is situated less than a 5-minute walk from Place Moulay Hassan, the main square between the port and the entrance to the Medina. Also known as the Old Town, it's protected by the Skala de la Kasbah – 18th-century seafront ramparts. It's a place made for ambling, with cafes, galleries, shady plazas, and shops galore.
For some beach and chill time, the hotel is a brief stroll from the sandy, well-maintained stretch of Plage Essaouira, and just slightly further from Tagharte. And back at Salut Maroc, there's a private hammam to relax and de-stress in (extra charge applies).
