Hotels in Ibiza

Balearic Islands

Ibiza’s reputation as a roosting spot for sunset-worshippers and party-lovers is well-earned, but these days the Balearic getaway is as synonymous with Yoga retreats and boho-chic boutique hotels as it is with the dance music scene. Large swathes of the island have been declared a Unesco World Heritage site and much is being made of the island’s cultural and historic treasures. With rustic fincas, hilltop hamlets and crystalline waters to explore, there’s more to this wild child than first meets the eye.

When to go

If you’re here for the clubs, time your visit for the June and September opening and closing parties. Late spring and early autumn are perfect for savouring the island’s untamed rural beauty.

Food & Drink

In the midst of a quiet culinary revolution, the island is making the most of local, sustainable ingredients in on-trend, unpretentious seaside eateries. Farm-to-table is the buzzword here: try Can Domingo for garden-fresh fare in a restored farmhouse. Beachside El Chiringuito is more sophisticated, with dishes such as smoked aubergine, truffled sashimi and pistachio-crusted anchovies on the menu. Palo, Frigola and Hierbas are the local herb-infused spirits, but beware – they’re rather potent.

Not to miss

Hop on a ferry for a dip in Formentera’s crystal-clear waters – the smallest of the Balearic islands is just half an hour away.

Pick your poison: sashay to Balearic beats in legendary nightclubs Space, Pacha or Amnesia, commandeer a day-bed at hip beach club Blue Marlin, or spot celebrities at under-the-radar drinking den Aura. Ibiza’s nightlife calls for a splash of glamour: limbs are bronzed, heels sky-high and cocktails expertly mixed.

Where to stay in Ibiza

Away from the town’s glitz and glamour, Ibiza’s ravishing countryside is dotted with idyllic boutique hotels. Old farmhouses and country estates have been sensitively restored. Opt for a spa-toting number in the island’s heart, or head to the northern coast for easy access to unspoilt coves.

How to get there

Ibiza’s international airport is well served by low-cost flights to destinations throughout Europe. You’ll need plenty of time for a ferry crossing to the Spanish mainland or the other Balearic islands.
