The magical Hotel Mediterraneo Sorrento is just 10 minutes from the centre of Sorrento on Italy's Amalfi coast. It was once the family home of Antonietta Lauro, known as Nonna Etta, whose children transformed the grand building into a hotel. Still run by the Maresca family, the charming team of staff provide authentic Italian hospitality to everyone who stays here.
The incredible cliff-top setting and spectacular views at this 69-room hotel combine with private gardens, a pool, spa, and direct beach access to give you and your family an unforgettable stay. Oh, and the property was renovated in 2020.
Looking out to the Bay of Naples, the panoramic Vesuvio Roof Restaurant focuses on fresh, local produce and simple, traditional dishes. Sit indoors in the elegant dining room with huge windows or outside on the terrace – either way you'll be able to enjoy the glorious views. Go for the tasting menu, or choose from the à la carte options, where dishes range from lightly pan-grilled amberjack with fennel and raspberry vinegar, pumpkin tortelli, and Sorrento-style chicken. This space is where you'll come to enjoy the plentiful breakfast buffet too.
For pizza and grilled meats in a more relaxed setting, stop by the Aqua Pool Lounge. The hotels offers two areas to enjoy a few pre-dinner drinks, or spend an evening spent soaking up the Mediterranean atmosphere: the White Bar offers complimentary nibbles (from 6-7.30pm) and classic drinks in a contemporary setting, while the outdoor Vista Sky Bar is sure to be a highlight of your stay, with scenic vistas out to the sea and Mount Vesuvius – sit back with one of the signature cocktails and enjoy the live bands and DJ sets.
The bright and airy rooms and suites are decorated in cool shades of white and blue. Some have garden or city views, others look out to the sea. Some have a window or balcony, others a terrace. Which will you choose?
Relax by the hotel pool or in the Jacuzzi in the subterrean spa, take the lift down to La Marinella beach (with an area reserved for guests of the hotel), or unwind in the gardens with a refreshing drink from the bar.
It's worth noting that the tide is high in this area, and most beaches are small, with platforms. The hotel has its own platform with loungers, parasols, and access to the sea.
This really is the perfect place to come and relax, but if you're looking to discover the local area, there's plenty to do and see: explore the Amalfi coast in the hotel's private yacht, which is available for exclusive hire or for group excursions, head out on a paddle board, take a day trip to picturesque Positano, or simply amble the Old Town of Sorrento – complimentary shuttle services into the centre run 13 times a day. Naples is just an hour's drive away, and the ancient ruins of Pompeii are just 45 minutes by car.
Free parking is available.
